The No. 15 NC State women’s basketball team extended its win streak to four games, beating Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, 70-58.
The Wolfpack (20-6, 10-3 ACC) completed a come-from-behind win on Thursday to notch its second consecutive 20-win season. Despite shooting 52.9 percent on the night, the Eagles (9-18, 2-12 ACC) were unable to hold off the Pack to gain a conference win.
The Pack could not find the bottom of the net in the first quarter, as it only scored eight points shooting 2 of 12 from the field and 0 of 5 from behind the arc. Half of its first quarter points came from the charity stripe as the Pack shot 4 of 4.
Unlike the Pack, Boston College came out dominating the paint in the first as 16 of its 19 points came down low. Additionally, the Eagles won the rebound battle 13 to four.
The Eagles carried their momentum into the second quarter, as they shot 64 percent from the field. Boston College shared the ball well as each of its seven field goals came with an assist. Senior center Mariella Fasoula led the way with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
The Wolfpack was able to gain some momentum of its own in the second quarter as it dropped 23 points and shot 50 percent from the field. Redshirt senior guard Dominique Wilson led the Pack in scoring with 16 at the half.
Both teams continued to shoot very well in the third as the Pack shot 53 percent and the Eagles shot 64 percent.
The Wolfpack tallied another 20-point quarter as the team added 24 points to its total at the end of the third. The Wolfpack was able to force six turnovers, capitalizing with 11 points.
The third quarter was where the game became a back-and-forth affair. There were a total of seven lead changes and the score was tied for a total one minute and 35 seconds. The Pack was able to gain its first lead of the game at the end of the third, 55-49.
NC State’s defense prevailed again in the fourth quarter, forcing seven turnovers including four steals. The Pack only shot 25 percent from the field but converted 8 of 9 free throws to solidify the win, 70-58.
Boston College shot 31 percent from the field and only tallied nine points in the fourth, its lowest numbers in both categories for the game. Fasoula led the way for the Eagles as she tallied 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Wilson led the Pack with 23 points, shooting 9 of 10 from the free throw line, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Senior guard Miah Spencer and senior forward Jennifer Mathurin also tallied double-digit points as they scored 12 and 14 points, respectively.
NC State will come back to Raleigh and play in the 12th annual Play4Kay game, Sunday in Reynolds Coliseum on Kay Yow court against Wake Forest at 2 p.m.
