The No. 15 NC State women’s basketball team will travel to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to take on Boston College Thursday at 7 p.m. This will be the first matchup between these teams this season.
The Wolfpack (19-6, 9-3 ACC) looks to add another “W” in its current three-game win streak against the Eagles (9-17, 2-11 ACC). The Pack is currently fourth in the ACC while Boston College is lonesome at the bottom. State will notch its 20th win and 10th conference win of the season if it is able to come out victorious.
The main focus of this game would be to remain consistent throughout all four quarters. The Wolfpack has a tendency of not playing well in one quarter, which allows the other team to come back and win.
This is true for the first two conference losses to No. 16 Miami and Syracuse. Both wins from the Hurricanes and Orange were come-from-behind wins where the Pack struggled in one quarter.
Junior forward Chelsea Nelson, who is currently averaging 11.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, looks to try and stay out of early foul trouble. Nelson has had games where head coach Wes Moore had to take her out the game one minute into play because she picked up a quick foul.
Senior guards Miah Spencer and Dominique Wilson seek to continue their hot hand from their last game against Virginia Tech. Spencer shot 11 of 16 from the field, tallying 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists with no turnovers. Wilson posted double-digit scoring and added 19 points and seven assists.
With the leadership from Spencer and Wilson, the Pack will be able to continue its hot streak in conference play.
The Pack will need to keep its tough defense in order to walk away with a win. According to NC State Athletics, the Pack has held its opponents to a 39.9 field goal percentage in 16 games.
Sophomore center Mariella Fasoula leads the Eagles in scoring as she averages 15.8 points per game as well as grabs 7.4 boards per game. The Pack will have to keep watch of senior guard Kelly Hughes, who is averaging 1.3 steals per game and converts 2.6 3-pointers per game.
Traveling to Boston College is not an easy task for the Pack. In the last nine meetings at Boston College, the Pack is 3-6. The last time NC State played at Boston College, it lost 64-59 in overtime.
The Pack can gain confidence in this road trip as the Eagles are 0-12 against teams in the RPI top 100, while NC State has a RPI of 28.
After the Pack travels to Boston College, the team will come back home for the famous Play4Kay game at Reynolds Coliseum Sunday against Wake Forest.
Senior guard Miah Spencer drives the ball down the baseline during the Wolfpack's 55-42 win against Pittsburgh on Jan 26. Spencer posted seven points and four assists in the win at Reynolds Coliseum.
