The No. 11 NC State rifle team scored its highest total of the season in the smallbore competition on its way to beating The Citadel, 4,654-4,574, over the weekend.
The Pack (6-4, 2-2 GARC) scored a season-high 2,314 in the smallbore competition in Charleston, South Carolina in the Inuoye Marksmanship Center at The Citadel. The mark passed the team’s previous season-best 2,313 against No. 10 Akron on Oct. 21.
NC State scored a team total of 2,340 in the air rifle, bringing its aggregate score to 4,654. The Bulldogs (5-12) shot a 2,260 in smallbore and 2,314 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 4,574.
Graduate Lauren Phillips shined once again for the Wolfpack. Phillips claimed the top spot in the aggregate, scoring 1,176. The Seabeck, Washington native had a perfect series in the prone position in the smallbore competition, finishing with a score of 587; she also led all participants in the air rifle, registering a score of 589.
The Pack also secured the second-best mark in the smallbore thanks to junior Will Marciniak’s score of 580, including 99s on both series in the prone position. Marciniak would finish second overall in the aggregate with a 1,159 due to a score of 579 in the air rifle.
Sophomore Zach Eisenberg recorded NC State’s third-best score in smallbore, notching a 574 and sophomore Claire Zanti was just behind at 573. Zanti’s score separated her from the crowd however, as she scored a 584 in the air rifle with a perfect 100 on her fourth series. Eisenberg tied her at 584 in the air rifle as well.
Sophomore Kendra Jacobs and senior Derya Pekari scored respectable finishes of 566 and 567, respectively for the Pack in the smallbore. Jacobs went on to finish at 583 in the air rifle while Pekari filed a 569 with a 96 in her second series of the air rifle.
Wolfpack rifle will come back to Raleigh on Sunday as it faces North Georgia in Reynolds Coliseum. The competition is set for 1 p.m.
