The StateView Hotel, which has been in the works on Centennial Campus for several months, opened its doors Wednesday. The hotel plans to provide a venue for conventions that come to Raleigh, as well as guests visiting NC State’s campus.
Nestled right next to Lake Raleigh, StateView is in close proximity to Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
“The University is very pleased to welcome Marriott’s Autograph Collection hotel that will provide faculty, staff, students, parents and visitors with outstanding accommodations on Centennial Campus,” said Scott R. Douglass, vice president of finance and administration.
The hotel is part of the Autograph Collection Hotels, which are a collection of hotels worldwide that are recognized as being one of a kind.
“We definitely have that with our emphasis on innovation, collaboration and the success of NC State,” said Karris Deis, the director of sales and marketing for the hotel. “We celebrate inside this hotel the greatest works coming out of NC State.”
The hotel celebrates the successes of NC State by integrating the different focuses of colleges on the campus into the design of the hotel. In their restaurant, Flask & Beaker, the wallpaper is customized with patents NC State alumni have gained over the years.
Just outside the main lobby, a small library is nestled into a corner and different types of fabric hang on the walls as a tribute to textiles at NC State. Along the corridors, other art lining the walls originates from the college of textiles as well.
Two of the most emphasized features of the hotel are the conference spaces as well the other outdoor areas. StateView has 10,000 square feet of conference space which includes indoor and outdoor areas. Fifty percent of the indoor light is natural lighting, streaming in from the nearly floor-to-ceiling windows. The outdoor area is a large balcony off the back of the hotel that has comfortable seating arranged in squares and circles to encourage conversation.
“Sharing thoughts and innovations together is crucial, and here at the StateView we wish to encourage those conversations,” Deis said.
There are also multiple ballrooms and lounges for hosting events. StateView plans to partner with the Raleigh Conventions and Visitors Bureau and has already made plans to participate in the major citywide conventions and events.
“The goal for the StateView has always been to provide a conference venue that promotes an excellent learning experience,” Douglass said.
The hotel has 164 guest rooms, or “dens,” for visitors for stay in. There are also three suites, a gym facility and a full-service restaurant with valet parking. Deis says that StateView envisions a diverse range of clientele frequenting the venue, such as “faculty, companies, deans and folks from all over the U.S. doing research to work on conquering problems.”
The hotel had a soft opening Wednesday, and is now ready to serve guests and the greater Raleigh community.
