The NC State women’s volleyball team will travel to Michigan for its final nonconference slate of matches this weekend as it takes on Cincinnati, No. 21 Michigan and Milwaukee at Cliff Keen Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Wolfpack (3-5) is riding a three-game winning streak after losing five straight matches to open the season.
NC State defeated LIU Brooklyn, 3-0, in its most recent match to extend the winning streak to three games. The Pack also holds victories over High Point and UNC-Wilmington this season.
The Wolfpack’s first opponent this weekend, Cincinnati, has struggled to a 1-8 record to open up the year and is in the midst of a five-game losing streak. The Bearcat’s lone win came against Xavier on Sept. 1 in a 3-2 defeat of the Musketeers.
Despite the poor start this season, last year’s Cincinnati squad experienced considerably more success, posting a 22-10 overall record and an impressive 17-3 mark in the AAC, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
State’s next opponent, Michigan, has logged a 7-2 record thus far in 2017, earning a top-25 ranking. The Wolverines also advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2016. Michigan’s most recent loss was to No. 25 Colorado State in straight sets, but they own wins over Butler and Loyola Marymount. The team has also won all but two of its matches in straight sets.
The Wolfpack’s last matchup of the weekend will come against Milwaukee, who owns a 7-3 record on the year. In 2016, the Panthers went 15-13 overall and 9-7 in the Horizon League.
The weekend represents an opportunity for NC State to continue its hot streak after a rough start, and pick up a marquee victory against a ranked Michigan team.
State will begin its conference slate after the Michigan trip when it opens up against No. 24 UNC-Chapel Hill in Reynolds Coliseum on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
