The NC State women’s soccer team fell to No. 21 Florida State 1-0 Friday night in Tallahassee.
Florida State was the beneficiary of an early goal and solid defense as the Wolfpack fell to 8-3-1 and 1-1-2 in the ACC while the Seminoles improved to 8-2-0 and 2-1-0 in conference play.
The Wolfpack recorded just six shots and one shot on goal during the match while the Seminoles managed 10 shots overall to go with six shots on goal.
The game’s only goal occurred in the 15th minute when Florida State’s Kaycie Tillman connected on a shot off a rebound that snuck past Wolfpack junior goalkeeper Sydney Wootten. Despite the score, Wootten had a solid performance in goal for the Pack as she recorded five saves, all in the first half, against a talented Florida State attack.
The Wolfpack had several decent scoring opportunities throughout the match, but was held scoreless by the Seminole defense.
The Seminoles logged nine of their 10 shots in the first half, as State’s defense tightened up in the second half of the match. The Pack managed to keep possession at a better rate in the second half, but garnered just one corner in the period and two overall.
Florida State’s early goal proved decisive as the Wolfpack was sent home with its second conference loss in a row in game two of its current stretch of four consecutive road matches.
NC State will look to change its fortunes when it faces No. 4 Duke in Durham Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
