Coming off a win in its last nonconference game of the season, the NC State women’s soccer team returns to the field Thursday night to face the Boston College Eagles, looking for its first ACC win of the season.
The Wolfpack (7-1-1, 0-0-1 ACC) is currently ranked No. 25 in the most recent Soccer America rankings, coming off a 0-0 tie against No. 3 Virginia, and a 1-0 win against Western Carolina on Sunday. In the first RPI rankings released on Monday, State is ranked No. 13. Thursday’s game against Boston College will be the last of a five-game homestand for the Pack, before State plays four road games in a row.
The Eagles (7-3-0, 1-0 ACC) just defeated Louisville, 2-0, in their first ACC game on Sunday afternoon. Boston College comes to Raleigh having won three games in a row, all in shutout fashion.
Goalkeeper Alexis Bryant has started all 10 games for the Eagles, playing all but 15 minutes this year. She is allowing an average of one goal per game, tallying four total shutouts, and recording 0.722 save percentage.
Midfielder Lauren Berman leads Boston College with five goals and 13 points. Forward/midfielder Sam Coffey has three goals on the year; she ranks second on the team with 12 points as well. Forwards Jenna Bike and Olivia Vaughn are tied for third on the team with four goals apiece.
The last three games against Boston College have ended in a 1-0 outcome. In 2014 and 2015, Boston College came out on top; however, in 2016 State defeated the Eagles 1-0 on a goal from sophomore midfielder Ricci Walkling. Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Wooten pitched a shutout to help the Pack earn three crucial points in the standings, which helped propel the Pack into the NCAA tournament.
State has only allowed one goal in its last five games, and only four goals total in nine games on the season. State will need to continue this superb defensive play on Thursday in order to walk away with a win.
Sophomore midfielder Tziarra King leads the team with six goals and 16 points. Walkling and sophomore forward Kia Rankin are second on the team with three goals and eight points, respectively.
The Pack will look to pick up three points again, before it heads on the road for four games, including matchups against currently ranked opponents, No. 4/5 Duke and No. 23/12 Florida State.
