As of this past weekend, the season of fall has officially begun. The weather may seem as if it is still in the midst of summer, but we’re not too far from fall. It’s the time of year where changing leaves, cool breezes, and every sort of food, drink and decor that could possibly be tied in with pumpkins pop up.
With the changing seasons, a new slew of on-campus activities are quickly approaching. In particular, the Union Activities Board has several exciting activities slated for the upcoming weeks.
To start off the season strong, the UAB will be hosting a trivia night this Tuesday in the 1887 Bistro from 9-11 p.m. This will be the first in a series of trivia nights, each to be held on the last Tuesday of every month. The competition includes prizes for those knowledgeable enough to win, with the first place prize for this month being a Bluetooth speaker. Quite a bit of preparation has been put into Tuesday’s trivia night, with members pooling together to select the pool of questions to be used at the event.
“[The UAB members] have been going through the questions for Trivia Night,” said Hannah Wright, the president of the UAB’s Leisure and Recreation Committee and a second-year studying textile management. “I’ve been truly amazed by the little facts I’m finding out.”
This month’s Trivia Night, the first in a series, will mainly include general trivia, but UAB Leisure and Recreation plans to introduce specific themes at upcoming trivia events. October’s trivia night happens to fall on Halloween itself, and will include a costume competition.
However, the UAB’s plans for the fall season do not end with these trivia nights. A whole set of activities have been planned for the upcoming month and beyond.
“[The UAB] tries to provide a whole list of experiences that are open to learning, fun, and allow you to grow as a person.” said Caleb Parker, vice president of the Leisure and Recreation Committee and a third-year studying sociology.
Also on Halloween, the UAB Films committee will be hosting Scream on the Green on Stafford Commons. This event features a movie showing from 9-11 p.m., as well as a variety of activities and games held beforehand on the green.
Looking back to this upcoming week, the UAB is having their Pack the Plaza event this Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at Wolf Plaza, located near Talley Student Union.
On Oct. 27, the UAB will be hosting the NC State Homecoming Concert, which will be headlined by 2 Chainz. The concert itself will be held in Reynolds Coliseum and will start at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening an hour beforehand. Tickets are available through the UAB’s website, with students being able to purchase three tickets each.
These events, however are just some of what the UAB has to offer. New events are added every week, so be sure to keep your eyes on the schedule for more activities to come. Additionally, students also have the ability to contribute directly to the scheduling and setup for the UAB’s events. The Leisure and Recreation Committee of UAB holds meetings every other week, where student can come in and hear about upcoming activities, as well as find out how they can help with the creation and preparation for these events. The meetings are held from 6-7 p.m. in the UAB suite on the fifth floor of Talley.
