Feb. 1: Black Girl Magic at the Talley Piedmont Ballroom
Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m.
Start off Black History Month with keynote guest speaker Kimberlee Postell, who will be discussing identity, representation and black womanhood.
Feb. 2: Backyard Brawl at the PNC Arena
Thursday from 7-10 p.m.
Show your support for NC State or UNC-Chapel Hill’s hockey team, which will be facing off for their biggest game of the year.
Feb. 2: Groundhog Day
Thursday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Is it time for spring? Say hello to Sir Walter Wally, Raleigh’s resident groundhog and see what his prediction will be for the next six weeks. Fun groundhog activities start at 9 a.m. The Shadow Ceremony is at noon on the Bicentennial Plaza, right in front of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences (11 W Jones St., Raleigh, North Carolina 27601).
Feb. 4: 13th annual Krispy Kreme Challenge
Saturday from 8-11 a.m.
To register, visit krispykremechallenge.com. Whether participants eat doughnuts or not, all runners pay the same registration fees, start at the same time and receive an official race T-shirt. All proceeds benefit the UNC Children’s Hospital. The race commences at the Belltower.
Feb. 5: Really Really Free Market
Sunday from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Take items that you need and bring items that you want to donate, from clothing to books to school supplies. The event is located in the Brickyard and is hosted by the “Oak City Really Really Free Market.”
Feb. 15-19: The Secret Garden
The NC State University Theatre will be presenting the award-winning musical “The Secret Garden.” From Wednesday to Saturday, the performance starts at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available in Thompson Hall, by phone at 919-515-1100, or online via http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?organ_val=22089&schedule=list.
Feb. 16: My Sister’s Keeper
From 6-7:30 p.m., join an intersectional discussion on black feminism, woman-ism and the community of being a woman of color on campus. The event will be held in Talley Student Union room 4261.
Feb. 18: 1st Annual NC KoreaFest
From 10 a.m.-3 p.m., check out performances, cooking and craft demos, storytelling, face-painting and more. The Global Korean Wave Federation sponsors the event, and it is the first of its kind. There will be refreshments and Korean gifts available for purchase. The festival is located at 421 Chapanoke Road, Raleigh, NC 27603-3428.
Feb. 24-25: WKNC’s 14th Annual Double Barrel Benefit
NC State’s student-run radio station, WKNC, will be hosting its annual two-night concert and largest fundraiser of the year later this month. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. The event will be held at Kings in downtown Raleigh. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 the night of or $20 for both nights. The Krispy Kreme Challenge, which has racers run from the Bell Tower to Krispy Kreme eat a dozen glazed donuts, and run back, took place on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015. An N.C. State student in the intensive English program, Ghassan Al-Hadhrami, won the race with a time of 28 minutes and 50 seconds.
