If consistency is the key in athletics, then to this point, the Wolfpack baseball team has not achieved its goals.
With big series wins over No. 1 ranked Virginia and most recently No. 6 Georgia Tech, N.C. State would seem to be on the right track. The only problem is that it can’t seem to fi nd ways to win games over unranked opponents.
The Pack began the season with its largest margin of victory ever for a weekend series, beating the La Salle Explorers 65-15 in three games. It went on to win eleven out of the first twelve games of the season, including a big win over the then ranked No. 3 UC Irvine
Anteaters.
Since then, State has gone 17-17 overall and sits at 11-13 in the ACC and is in eighth place, but its rivals from Chapel Hill will be looking to take over that spot.
State has had good play from several players on the team, especially from senior infielder Dallas Poulk and sophomore infielder Andrew Ciencin, who have both had great seasons.
Poulk leads the team in hits and is third in the nation in runs, while Ciencin leads the team in RBIs.
If the Pack can find the consistency in ACC play that has eluded it to this point, watch out for this team in the tournament. Only eight teams make the ACC tournament, so the Pack needs
wins in their two remaining ACC weekend series against Florida State and Duke.
State has proven it can beat better teams, but needs to find ways to win every game if it looks to play in the postseason.
