For the fourth time this season, N.C. State built a substantial cushion in the first half. But unlike in wins over UCF and Georgia Tech and the loss to Virginia Tech, the outcome Saturday was hardly in doubt, as the Pack built on its quick start against BC in one of the most dominant ACC wins of Tom O’Brien’s career.
Thanks to a blocked punt for a touchdown and another strong performance by quarterback Russell Wilson, who finished with 328 yards and three touchdowns, the Wolfpack jumped out to a 24-3 lead with six minutes to play in the second quarter. Boston College responded with a touchdown to bring the score to 24-10 with two minutes remaining in the first half, but that was as close as the Golden Eagles got.
State added a field goal just before halftime, then tacked on 17 more unanswered points after the half to push the lead to 44-10 with less than eight minutes remaining. The first score of the second half came on an interception return for a touchdown by C.J. Wilson, giving his team touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams. Wilson’s third and final score of the day went to Jarvis Williams on a six-yard screen pass. BC capped the scoring with a 67-yard bomb from Mike Marscovetra to Alex Amidon against the Pack’s reserve defenders to account for the final score
