According to eyewitnesses and University officials, residents evacuated Sullivan Hall after a fire alarm sounded on the fifth floor around 1 to 1:10 a.m.
“There was a smolder of something in the trash can in 508 or 509,” Lee Little, building environmental supervisor for Housekeeping Services, said.
Lee and Bragaw Hall were not evacuated.
Six fire trucks and an ambulance responded to the call. Technician was unable to confirm whether there were any injuries.
University Housing officials were not able to make any statements about the situation.
After an incident in 2009, students were hesitant about what would happen with the sprinkler system.
“Our first reaction was to grab our laptops,” Keegan Rice, a sophomore in engineering, said.
University Housing officials withheld students living in suites 508 and 509 from returning to their dorms. All other residents were able to return to their rooms at 1:37 a.m.
