The UNC Board of Governors held an emergency meeting Thursday morning. At this meeting, the Board named Thomas Ross as the successor to Erskine Bowles.
Bowles has been the President of the UNC System for five years, and will be retiring at the end of December. Ross will take over January 1.

During the Board of Governors meeting, Ross said he would do his best to lead the UNC System.
“I’m far from perfect and I’m no miracle worker. But I will work as hard and as smartly as I can to serve the state and the people of North Carolina.”
