Hillsborough Street, as well as the surrounding streets around the University’s campus, will be closed Saturday morning while Raleigh host’s the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Registration will remain open through race day.
There will be no parking on campus for the race except for handicapped parking; however, buses will take participants from the RBC center to Hillsborough Street.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, these streets will be closed during the race: Hillsborough Street from Beryl Road to Gorman Street, Dixie Trail and Brooks Avenue from Wade Avenue to Hillsborough Street, Clark Avenue from Pogue Street to Brooks Avenue and Dixie Trail and Faircloth, Faircloth Street from Ruffin Street to Hillsborough Street, and Gorman Street from Sullivan Drive to Hillsborough Street.
Hillsborough Street will be closed from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Students can still register for the event at Meredith College today, as well as tomorrow.
The competitive race fee is $30, and every other race event listed at $25.
The race has 23,000 registered participants and projects a total of 30,000 people to be at the event.
According to Laura Tormey, director of development and communications for the Komen N.C. Triangle affiliate, the race is the largest in North and South Carolina.
“We’re hoping to have $2 million donated at the race,” said Tormey.
According to Tormey, there are four races: a competitive at 7 a.m., a women’s only at 7:45 a.m., a recreational open race at 8:45 a.m. and a one-mile “fun run” at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a 10 a.m. dash for children.
