Students in Fraternity Court and North Hall experienced power outages late Monday night and Early Tuesday morning as touching power lines blew off-campus transformers.
According to Dennis Lockard, a spokesperson for Progress Energy, two feeders are broken, but they are not sure of the exact cause.
This outage has left 1,600 customers out of power. Progress Energy is expecting the outage to be fixed by 2:15 a.m., at the latest.
According to Sgt. Jeff Sutton of Campus Police, everything south of Western Boulevard toward Avent Ferry Road and North Hall lost power about 12:30 a.m.
“A couple of lines over by Wolf Village keep touching and blowing a transformer off campus,” Sutton said. “Everything [affected is] on main campus, except for Fraternity Court and North Hall.”
Sutton said this was the second time the power grid, linked to Western Boulevard. and North Hall, was affected by the touching lines within a two-hour span.
According to Sutton, the first outage happened around 10:30 p.m. and was fixed within approximately 30 minutes. He also said he expects the power to return shortly.
“Progress Energy’s on its way out here again,” Sutton said.
