Senior Bianca Moldovan celebrates after a point for the Wolfpack during her doubles match with teammate Liz Norman. The duo lost the match against UNC-Chapel Hill 6-4 on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The NC State women’s tennis team extended its recent hot streak by dominating Clemson (6-1) and Appalachian State (7-0) in J. W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The Wolfpack (14-3, 5-1) has been on a roll since a disappointing showing at the ITA Indoor Championships. It has won eight of its last nine matches with the only loss coming to top-ranked UNC and has trounced three ranked opponents. It has outscored its competition 42-14 in that span.
Against Clemson, NC State dominated from start to finish. In doubles, the pairs of junior Anna Rogers/freshman Alana Smith (6-3) and junior Adriana Reami/senior Claudia Wiktorin (6-1) took home the point. These lopsided scores would become a theme for the rest of the afternoon as the Pack made few errors and showed little mercy.
In the singles matches, Rogers (6-2, 6-2), Smith (6-4, 6-0) and Reami (6-1, 6-0) easily defeated their opponents to earn three points and clinch the win for NC State. Senior Bianca Moldovan and senior Amanda Rebol then tacked on two more points for the Wolfpack and sophomore Liz Norman lost a three-set match.
Against Appalachian State, NC State picked up where it left off and thoroughly outclassed the Mountaineers, sweeping them 7-0. The Pack won the doubles point on the backs of Rogers/Smith (6-4) and Wiktorin/Reami (6-2).
In singles, each Wolfpack participant easily dispatched their opponent; the Pack outscored the Mountaineers by a combined 73-22 and only one set saw Appalachian State score more than two games. Rogers, Smith, Reami, Moldovan, Rebol and Wiktorin all won in straight sets.
The Wolfpack will travel to Indian Wells, California to compete against Baylor on March 15.
