The NC State men’s and women’s tennis teams have been on a roll as of late. Both teams will be in action this weekend, with the women at home against Clemson and Appalachian State and the men on the road facing Oklahoma State and Texas.
The men’s team (10-3, 1-0 ACC) has won five out of its last six matches, with its lone loss coming to No. 26 Tennessee. The women’s team (12-3, 4-1 ACC) has won six of its last seven matches, losing only to top-ranked UNC-Chapel Hill by a score of 5-2.
This past weekend, the women took down top-50 opponents Louisville and Notre Dame. Heading into Friday against Clemson, the Tigers (6-8, 2-4 ACC) are coming off of a split weekend with a loss to Virginia and a win against Boston College. Appalachian State (4-2) will come into Friday playing three prior matches in the next four days.
Tenth-ranked doubles partners, junior Anna Rogers and freshman Alana Smith, picked up their 21st victory of the season against Notre Dame. This pairing has been a dominant force for the Pack this season, which can be shown in their ranking they’ve held for so long.
As for the men’s team, they took a week and a day off before facing No. 27 Pennsylvania Monday night and picking up an impressive 7-0 win against a very good team. This was the Pack’s second win against a ranked opponent this season.
Junior Alexis Galarneau has six ranked wins this season after Monday, posting a 9-1 record in singles. Galarneau is ranked 43rd in the nation currently, as the Pack’s highest and only ranked singles player.
As a whole, the team is ranked No. 35 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Team Rankings.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are 8-4 on the season and picked up a 4-0 win against Villanova its last time out. The other opponent the Pack will face over the weekend is the Texas Longhorns, who boast an impressive 13-1 record, with their only loss coming to top-ranked Ohio State.
The men begin action against the Cowboys Friday at 4:30 p.m. and wrap up Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against the Longhorns.
The women will start play Friday at 2:00 p.m. against the Tigers at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center and then take on the Mountaineers starting at 6:00 p.m.
