After a successful 2-1 series win against conference rival Florida State, NC State baseball (19-1, 5-1 ACC) is set to take on Towson (3-13) Tuesday.
NC State’s remarkable season-starting undefeated record was broken in Sunday’s finale against the Seminoles as it lost 7-5, but it was a program record while also tying its season win streak.
With the loss of heavy-hitters Brett Kinneman, Brock Deatherage and Josh McLain last year, a depletion of power at the plate seemed evident, but that has not been the case so far this season as the team has been batting .290 collectively.
The Pack bats have also outscored opponents substantially. During a two-game span last week, the Wolfpack amassed 34 runs compared to a combined three, in games against George Mason and the first game versus the Seminoles.
Defensively, NC State has been more than competent; its fielding percentage is .985. The pitching staff has been phenomenal as well, boasting an ERA of 3.16 compared to its opponents at 8.02.
To the outsider, it may look bleak for Towson coming into the matchup as it posts a .188 winning percentage, but no team plays to lose. While it isn’t known who will take the mound for the Tigers, pitchers Matt Waters and Josh Seils have a 2.45 and 3.80 ERA respectively.
There are a few Towson bats to be on the lookout for. Javon Fields, Brad Powers and Tom Flacco are all hitting at .250 and above. Even with the amount of losses posted, the Tigers have a .949 fielding percentage.
NC State will host Towson Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park and will look to add another game to the win column before traveling to Coral Gables, Florida to take on Miami in its third conference series of the season.
