On Thursday, rumors circulated that a gunman was on his way to campus and buildings were being evacuated. According to an email sent to the student body from NC State campus police, these rumors are inaccurate and campus is safe.
The social media post was quickly shared with students on campus. It contained language that suggested that the student may have been coming to the university with firearms.
“Based on a social media post made earlier today by a student who was recently trespassed from campus and criminally charged for having weapons in his vehicle parked in the Dan Allen Deck … rumors are quickly spreading about a potential shooter danger today,” the email states.
The student, Christian Dorr, a second-year studying business administration, was recently arrested on Wednesday for possessing drug paraphernalia and having weapons on campus. Dorr was released on a $5,000 bond on Wednesday, according to The News & Observer.
“Police are closely monitoring the situation and have credible information contrary to the misinformation being spread on social media,” the email statement said. “Police have determined there is not a current threat to campus. NC State Police appreciates the reports about the potential danger and encourage the campus community to always report any suspicious behavior, including social media posts.”
