The NC State track and field team collected six podium placements and multiple top-ten finishes in its two weekend events on Thursday and Friday, April 12-13.
The Wolfpack sent distance runners to the UNC-Charlotte Invitational while the rest of the team traveled further west to the Tennessee Relays.
At the UNC-Charlotte Invitational, the Pack had six total podium placements as well as five other runners finish in the top 10 and several others who set personal bests.
Redshirt freshman Janay Hall placed second with a time of 2:13.50 in the women’s 800 meter.
Redshirt freshman Nevada Mareno and redshirt sophomore Dominique Clairmonte finished first and second, respectively, with times of 4:17.45 and 4:18.67 in the women’s 1500 meter. Their times, as well as redshirt freshman Julia Zachgo’s, who finished fourth with a time of 4:25.46, outpaced the conference qualifying standard of 4:25.93 for the 1500 meter.
Redshirt senior Patrick Sheehan, junior Gavin Gaynor and redshirt freshman Ian Shanklin finished first, second and third with times of 3:49.66, 3:49.75 and 3:50.40, respectively in the men’s 1500 meter to sweep the podium.
At the Tennessee Relays, the Pack took five top-ten finishes and met two additional qualifying standards.
The men’s 4×100 meter relay team consisting of redshirt sophomore Junpai Dowdy, junior Cravont Charleston, senior Shannon Patterson and freshman Alan Alvarez placed fifth with a time of 40.14. Dowdy, Patterson and Charleston also competed alongside sophomore J Johnson Jr. in the 4×400 meter relay, finishing seventh with a time of 3:14.02.
Senior Christopher Garrick met the ACC championship qualifying standard with a jump of 6’8.75” (2.05m) for an eighth-place finish in the men’s high jump.
Sophomore Michelle Cobb and senior Javonne Antoine both not only finished in the top ten of the women’s long jump at the Tennessee Relay with distances of 40’9.75” (12.44m) and 39’7.75” (12.08m), but also found themselves in the top ten of the NC State school record book.
The Wolfpack will next compete at the Duke Invitational and the UVA Challenge, both starting Thursday, April 18.
