The NC State baseball team lost to Notre Dame on Sunday by a score of 4-1. The Wolfpack (33-12, 14-10 ACC) led the Irish (19-23, 12-12 ACC) from the start of the game, but Notre Dame separated itself with a three-run sixth inning.
Sophomore catcher Patrick Bailey got things started in the first inning with a groundball double play which brought sophomore outfielder Jonny Butler home.
Sophomore lefty Canaan Silver got the start on the mound for NC State and had a strong first five innings. Silver only allowed one earned run during the first half of the game, but things took a turn in the sixth.
With the game tied at 1-1, Notre Dame’s Eric Gilgenbach sent Ryan Carr home with a single to right field and put the Irish up a run. Jack Zyska scored off a Jared Miller foul out, and an RBI single by David LaManna scored Daniel Jung to give the Irish a 4-1 advantage.
Notre Dame’s outburst ended Silver’s day, his final line included 5.1 innings pitched, five hits, four runs and three walks. Neither side was able to score another run as NC State lost its third straight series against an ACC team.
The Wolfpack will return to action at home against UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
