Junior Anna Rogers returns a volley against Virginia Tech during a doubles match on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. Rogers and senior Claudia Wiktorin defeated Virginia Tech senior Sarah Baron and junior Natalie Novotna 6-2 during the Wolfpack’s 5-2 overall win against the Hokies.
The Wolfpack women’s tennis team lost 4-2 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship Friday night to Miami at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill.
No. 9 NC State (22-6,11-3 ACC), despite winning the doubles point going into singles play, was not able to hold off No. 21 Miami (18-6,9-5 ACC).
The duo of junior Anna Rogers and freshman Alana Smith won their 12th ranked doubles match of the year 6-3. To clinch the doubles point, junior Adriana Reami and senior Claudia Wiktorin won their match decisively at 6-1.
NC State had one singles winner on the day which came from sophomore Liz Norman, who defeated Daniella Roldan 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
In a top-10 singles matchup, Rogers lost to the No. 2 ranked player in the country, Estela Perez-Somarriba.
Next up for the Wolfpack will be the NCAA Tournament. NC State will learn its path on Monday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. when the selection show airs.
