The NC State men’s and women’s tennis teams will both be taking on Duke in Durham on Wednesday, April 10 as part of their second to last games before the ACC championships.
The No. 10 women’s team (21-4, ACC 10-2) is heading into its Wednesday match back in the win column thanks to a victory over Winthrop University (12-7, BSC 8-0) on Sunday. Its 10-game winning streak was ended by No. 13 Florida State (17-5, ACC 9-3) earlier Sunday in the first match of the double header.
Junior Anna Rogers and senior Bianca Moldovan were the only members of the Wolfpack team to go undefeated in both singles matches on Sunday.
The match against Florida State went down to the wire, being decided by the final singles match. The Wolfpack had won the initial doubles point, but only managed to secure two singles wins, as freshman Alana Smith (7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2)) lost the final set in a closely contested match.
The Wolfpack only had a few hours to prepare for Winthrop but managed to come ahead as the team snagged a 4-3 victory.
The No. 4 Duke’s women’s team (18-2, ACC 10-1) is undefeated at home and currently riding an eight game winning streak so the Pack will have to rise to the occasion to overcome the strong Blue Devils team.
On the men’s side, the No. 21 NC State Wolfpack (15-9, ACC 6-4) is coming into Wednesday’s match with a key bounce back win 4-0 against Clemson. Before the win Sunday, the Pack had dropped back to back games against No. 11 UNC-Chapel Hill and No. 49 Georgia Tech.
The win against Clemson was a big resume building win for the Wolfpack as the team saw dominant performances from senior twins Igor and Ivan Saveljic, junior Alexis Galarneau, and freshman Yannai Barkai who all claimed undefeated sets over their Tiger opponents.
Duke’s men’s team (10-11, ACC 4-6) is heading into the match on the cusp of a three-match winning streak and will be coming out hot to try and prove themselves against the Pack.
The men’s team will be starting the day off at 3 p.m. and the women’s team is set to start at 6 p.m.
Junior team captain Alexis Galarneau wins 6-3, 6-4 against Louisville senior team captain Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff. The Wolfpack won against Louisville 4-1 on Sunday, March 17, 2019 in The J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
