The NC State softball team fell to Syracuse in the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday by a score of 5-3. The Orange (16-20, 6-6 ACC) took the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday along with the third game to claim the series over the Pack (21-18, 3-9 ACC).
Syracuse started the scoring in the top of the first with Gabby Terran’s leadoff single and eventually she came around to score on a passed ball.
The Wolfpack would answer in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff home run from sophomore outfielder Sam Russ. Sophomore Logan Morris followed the solo shot up with one of her own to put the Pack in front 2-1.
In the third inning, Alicia Hansen got on base with a single and would get into scoring position with a stolen base. Alex Acevedo plated Hansen on an RBI single to left field to tie the game at 2-2.
Both teams went scoreless into the top of the fifth when Syracuse took the lead for good on a bases-loaded single from Alexis Kaiser and then a wild pitch from the Pack gave the Orange a 4-2 advantage.
Syracuse added an insurance run to make it 5-2 in the top of the sixth. The Pack tried to answer, but could only muster one run across in the bottom of the sixth inning and had nothing going for them in the seventh.
The Pack will be back in action at home this Wednesday against the East Carolina Pirates with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
