The NC State baseball team picked up a 9-3 series clinching win against Radford Saturday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (36-12) fell behind early in the third inning due to a two-run home run by the Highlanders (23-23), but for what has become normal for this year’s squad, the Pack battled back in the fourth inning with two RBIs from junior designated hitter Brad Debo and freshman center fielder Tyler McDonough.

The Pack took that momentum into the fifth inning, with junior shortstop Will Wilson launching a three-run bomb over the left field wall that gave the Pack a 5-2 lead, which they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

Radford put up one more run in the sixth inning but that would be the last run scored by the Highlanders for the game, thanks to stellar work from the Wolfpack bullpen. Sophomore pitcher Evan Justice put in two innings of relief, giving up just one run with two strikeouts. Justice finished his day by earning his fourth win of the season.

NC State built on its lead in the seventh, with sophomore catcher Patrick Bailey beginning the scoring with a two-run single. Debo followed up Bailey’s hit with a single into left field and Radford walked in another run to give the Pack a comfortable 9-3 lead heading into the 8th inning.

Redshirt freshman pitcher Cameron Cotter closed the game for the Pack, pitching three scoreless innings with three strikeouts on 49 pitches. Cotter’s excellent outing gave him his second save of the season and preserved the Wolfpack’s 18th comeback win of the year.

The game Saturday afternoon gave NC State a much needed series win, its first since April 6 against Boston College.

NC State will look to sweep the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Doak Field, where the game can be watched on the ACC Network Extra.
