No. 29 NC State men’s tennis fell to No. 26 Tennessee for its third loss this season at J. W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Friday.
The final score was 4-1 with No. 43 junior Alexis Galarneau scoring the only point of the game with his singles win over No. 113 Timo Stodder of Tennessee. Tennessee won two of three doubles matches with Galarneau and Michael Ogden’s double match being abandoned.
Tennessee’s first point came from the doubles matches, seniors Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic lost 6-4 to Preston Touliato and Pat Harper while sophomore Tadas Babelis and senior Georgiy Malyshev lost 6-3 to Andrew Rogers and Martim Prata.
Galarneau beat Stodder in his first two sets, both sets ended 6-3. Stodder put up a good fight in the second set holding the match tied at 3-3 but Galarneau was able to close the match out with a three-point blowout.
Igor Saveljic faced No. 94 Adam Walton in a three-set match. Walton came out on top in the first set in a 6-1 win but Saveljic bounced back in the second set by scoring the first point. Eventually, he went on to win the second set in a thrilling 7-5 win. Saveljic tried his best to win the deciding third set but lost 6-4.
Bebelis and sophomore Robert Turzak both lost in straight sets. Turzak lost both sets 6-4 and Bebelis lost the first set 6-3 and the second 7-5.
This is the Wolfpack’s first match of three that it will play this weekend. The Pack will return to J. W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Sunday to play two matches. It will face Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. and North Carolina Central at 5 p.m.
