After a long, back-and-forth battle on the road against Pittsburgh, the Wolfpack came out on top with a 79-76 win. Redshirt junior guard C.J. Bryce put 21 points on the board, going 6 for 11 from the field and getting 7 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Braxton Beverly was back on his game, going 5 for 9 from behind the arc and putting 17 points on the board for the Pack.
“I am excited about the way we shot the basketball,” head coach Kevin Keatts said. “I thought it was the first game that we finally got [junior guard Markell Johnson], [Beverly] and [Bryce] on the same page.”
After taking three ACC losses in a row, the Pack needed the win against Pitt to boost its confidence and prepare for its game against Syracuse.
“There’s no room for error,” Bryce said. “That three-game losing streak took a big hit as far as what we’ve worked for this season. Getting that win at Pitt was big for us.”
The Syracuse Orange is coming off a 67-56 win against Boston College, Tyus Battle putting down 21 points for Syracuse and Buddy Boeheim putting down 16.
Syracuse will look to leading scorer Tyus Battle, who has totaled 429 points this season and has a field goal percentage of .458, and Elijah Hughes, who has a 3-point shooting percentage of .360 and has totaled 335 points so far this season.
It will also be crucial for NC State to make their shots, the leading rebounder for the Orange, Oshae Brissett, has totaled 192 rebounds, averaging eight per game.
The Wolfpack will look to Bryce to continue to make big plays and make shots from behind the arc, and will need leading scorer redshirt senior guard Torin Dorn to continue to put points on the board.
“It’s important that we go in with a lot of confidence,” Dorn said. “We have shooters that are able to shoot them out of the zone, so we have to do that and go in with that mentality.”
The Pack tips off against Syracuse on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in PNC Arena.
