Through two days of the ACC Championships in Greensboro, the NC State women’s swimming and diving team finds itself atop the leaderboard after a second day that featured five podium finishes and two gold medals.
The Pack has 454 points, 45 clear of second-place Louisville. On Thursday, sophomore Julia Poole captured gold in the 200-yard individual medley and the Pack women’s 200-yard freestyle relay team broke an ACC record to finish first. Freshman Sophie Hansson anchored the gold-medal team which also featured junior Ky-Lee Perry, freshman Kylee Alons and sophomore Sirena Rowe.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Perry captured a silver medal, with Alons finishing right behind her on the podium. In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Kate Moore’s 4:39.10 earned her a third-place finish.
The Wolfpack started up the conference tournament with a win on Wednesday, capturing its third straight gold in the 200-yard medley relay with a school-record time of 1:34.52 in the meet’s first event. Hansson, Perry, Rowe and senior Elise Haan swam the final for the Pack.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay on day one, the Wolfpack finished in fourth place.
On the diving boards, Pack junior Madeline Kline finished 29th in prelims on the 3-meter board. Freshman Hailey Fisher placed 31st.
The Wolfpack men divers are also in competition this week, with junior James Brady finishing 10th in the 3-meter dive and 13th at 1-meter. Sophomore Holt Gray placed 11th in the 1-meter and 13th in the 3-meter.
The Pack will have two more, much busier days of competition in Greensboro to try and hold onto the top spot and earn its second ACC title in the last three years.
