The NC State women’s golf team finished 12th in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate tournament in New Orleans Tuesday afternoon. The Pack shot a combined 912 (+48) for the tournament with a final round score of 305 (+17) on Tuesday.
The Pack was slightly edged by rival UNC-Chapel Hill, who finished 11th with a score of 911 (+47). Women’s golf powerhouse Texas placed first with a combined score of 876 (+12), winning the tournament by two strokes. Duke (878, +14) and USC (887, +23) rounded out the top-three finishers.
Freshman Lea Klimentova (229), senior Laura Kowohl (229) and junior Mim Sangkapong (230) were the leaders of the Pack in New Orleans. Kowohl and Klimentova finished Tuesday tied for 41st and Sangkapong finished in a tie for 44th.
The Pack was rounded out by sophomore Monika Hartl (232) and senior India Clyburn (233). They finished their days in ties at 58th and 65th, respectively.
It was not a bad performance for the team but one that could definitely see improvement. It is still very early in the season, so the Pack will have many more opportunities to improve.
The Wolfpack will play in its next tournament on March 9-10 at the Suntrust Gator Invitational, which is hosted by the University of Florida.
