The Wolfpack’s (6-2) first match in program history for the ITA Women’s Team Indoor Championship ended in defeat against the Bulldogs (6-0) on Friday, with the team losing 2-4. The Pack moved onto the second round only to lose 3-4 to the Huskies (6-1).
The Pack only managed to gather two wins against the Bulldogs. Freshman Alana Smith and junior Adriana Reami both won their singles matches against ranked players. Smith lost her first match to No. 10 junior Marta Gonzalez 6-4. Smith bounced back for the next two rounds winning 6-3 and 6-1 for a 2-1 victory. Reami swiftly defeated No. 102 freshman Lourdes Carle 6-3 in two rounds.
The Bulldogs won the other four matches including No. 2 sophomore Katarina Jokic taking three rounds to defeat junior Anna Rogers. Rogers had won the first round 6-4 before falling to Jokic in the following two matches, 6-1 and 6-4.
Senior Amanda Rebol also lost to the Bulldogs in three rounds after winning the first match 6-4. Sophomore Liz Norman and senior Bianca Moldovan lost their matches in two rounds to the Bulldogs. Moldovan took the first round into a slight overtime, 7-5 before falling short 6-4.
Sunday, Feb. 10, the Wolfpack continued to have a hard time finding its rhythm against the Huskies. The Pack lost every doubles match, 6-3, including the No. 9 Rogers and Smith duo who had been undefeated this season.
The Pack had a better time with the singles matches, walking away with three victories. Reami continued strong, defeating No. 87 junior Katarina Kopcalic in two rounds, 6-4 and 6-0.
Rogers and Norma won their singles matches as well. Rogers defeating No. 97 senior Stacey Fung for the Pack’s fourth ranked win over the weekend.
Smith, Moldovan and Rebol were all dealt losses from the Huskies. All three losses lasted two rounds.
The Wolfpack will return home this Saturday, Feb. 16 to face James Madison at 4 p.m.
