The No. 17 NC State women’s tennis team picked up wins over the Utah Utes (4-2) and the James Madison Dukes (4-4), coming off of an 0-2 performance at the ITA Women’s National Team Championships. The Pack defeated the Utes 7-0 and the Dukes 6-1 in Raleigh Saturday.
In the first match against Utah, NC State took the doubles point from the Utes with victories from junior pair Anna Rogers and freshman Alana Smith, as well as sophomore Liz Norman and senior Biana Moldovan.
With the Pack up 1-0 heading into singles, it didn’t let up, winning every singles match. The most dominant performances came from Norman, winning her court 6-2, 6-3, and Smith who won 6-2, 6-3.
Rogers and junior Andriana Reami had tighter first sets, but both cruised after a shaky first set. Reami won 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 and No. 25 Rogers won her court 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Against the Dukes of James Madison, the Pack cruised to its second victory of today dropping only one singles court.
NC State routed the Dukes in the doubles part of the match, with No. 60 Norman and Bianca taking their court 6-1 and Reami and senior Claudia Wiktorin won 6-1.
Heading into singles, the Wolfpack took the first four courts with wins from Norman, Smith, Reami and Moldovan all in straight sets, clinching the match for the Pack.
With the match in hand, the Dukes took the fifth singles court with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Wolfpack senior Amanda Rebol and senior Claudia Wiktorin finished out the match winning her court 6-4, 7-5.
Overall, NC State completed another successful weekend of tennis, its fourth undefeated weekend out of five this season. Up next for the Pack is ACC play next Friday, Feb. 22 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville with the match scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Freshman Alana Smith returns a volley against James Madison University senior Abby Amos on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. Smith defeated Amos 6-2, 7-6.
