The NC State men’s club basketball team returns home this weekend after traveling to Chapel Hill the previous weekend for a 16-team tournament. This weekend marks the last tournament for the team this semester before it kicks off a more intense schedule next semester.
Team Wolf and Team Pack both experienced a level of success over the past weekend, with Team Pack actually coming away with the tournament title, going 5-1 to do so. The most exhilarating game for Team Pack was a double-overtime victory over Winston-Salem State in the final four of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Team Wolf also made it to the final four, though the team lost to Florida State, behind a dominant performance from sophomore Jonathan Runymbo, a wing player with an extraordinarily athletic frame and wingspan. Graduate shooting guard BJ Durham also helped to lead the team. Team Pack went on to take down the Seminoles in the championship game.
On Team Pack, junior point guard Cam Wimbish had a great tournament, with one buzzer beater to lift the team to a win, and converting a four-point play in an overtime game to bring the team to a strong win.
Junior small forward Dane Palazzo has also looked like a strong leader for Team Pack, and the team will look to go even further in tournament play this weekend in the North Carolina-based tournament.
This weekend, the team enters a tournament of eight teams: Team Wolf and Team Pack from NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill’s Team Blue and Team White, Campbell, UNC-Wilmington, Wake Forest and UNC-Charlotte.
UNC’s two teams will look for revenge this weekend as neither of their teams went super far in the last tournament against NC State.
Team Wolf begins the tournament on Court Four in Carmichael Gym in Pool A, playing first at 11:15 a.m. against UNC-Charlotte, and then later in the day against Campbell at 1:45 p.m.
Meanwhile, Team Pack will play first at 10 a.m. against UNC’s White Team, and then again at 12:30 p.m. against UNC-Wilmington. Both games will be on Court Five as a part of Pool B.
The schedule for Sunday’s games is determined by the results of all teams on Saturday.
