The No. 14 NC State women’s basketball team will travel to Moraga, California to play St. Mary’s on Sunday, Nov. 24.
The Wolfpack (4-0) is undefeated on the season so far, with wins at home against North Carolina A&T, UNC-Wilmington, Lamar and Maine. The trip to California will be its first test on the road this season.
The Pack defeated Maine (1-3) in its most recent game 62-34 Tuesday, Nov. 19. Sophomore center Elissa Cunane was the leading scorer for both teams with 12 points on the day. She went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, and she collected 10 rebounds for her second double-double performance in a row.
Other contributors for the Pack included senior guard Aislinn Konig, who went 3-for-5 from behind the arc to earn her nine points; freshman forward Jada Boyd, who had 16 rebounds and eight points; and junior guard Kai Crutchfield, who also recorded eight points including two baskets from 3-point territory.
Looking to have a strong start to its road trip, NC State will travel to play St. Mary’s (2-2), who won its most recent game at home against UC Davis 83-74.
The Gaels have struggled as the away team, losing both of their road games against Nevada and Wyoming, but they’ve had a great start at home, defeating UC Santa Barbara 64-43 along with UC Davis.
Emily Codding and Sam Simmons have both dominated the court so far for the Gaels. Codding has 14.8 points per game on the season, including 17 in her last game against UC Davis. Simmons also had 17 points in her last game and is only shortly behind Codding in the points category with 14.3 points per game.
Simmons also totaled 13 rebounds on the night and was 4-for-6 shooting free throws and 1-for-2 from behind the arc.
Other key players for the Gaels include sophomore guard Taycee Wedin, who leads the team in 3-pointers with 13, and junior guard Madeline Holland, who leads the team in free throws with 10.
The Pack will continue to lean on Cunane, its leading scorer, as well as impactful players Boyd and junior forward Kayla Jones, who both have over 10 points per game so far this season.
If the Wolfpack can control St. Mary’s on the offensive side of the ball, it should be able to pull out another win to start its first road trip of the season.
The game will tip off at 5 p.m. Sunday in Moraga, California.
