In this week’s edition of Wolfpack Wager, we will dive into the Thursday night matchup between the Wolfpack and the Yellow Jackets and cover some enticing matchups elsewhere in the ACC and the Big Ten.
NC State at Georgia Tech (-2.5)
This game is the college football equivalent of a Thursday night Titans vs. Jaguars matchup. No one from other fan bases cares about this game, besides bowl eligibility, and it is not going to be a pretty one.
Both teams are bottom feeders in the ACC, but the Wolfpack has a little more to play for. NC State needs to win out to become bowl eligible, so Thursday night is a must win for them.
It has been a tough season for Georgia Tech, and at this point, it is just playing for pride. It has been rare this year, but even with injuries, NC State is much more talented on both sides of the ball in comparison to its opponent.
Vegas is of the opinion that this game could go either way, as the spread is close and both teams are on long losing streaks. In the end, someone is going to have to win this game, and in a toss-up game, it is safer to take the points. Roll with the Pack for this one.
Pick: NC State (+2.5)
Syracuse at Louisville (-9)
If you have been paying attention to ACC football this year, then you were most likely shocked to see Syracuse throttle Duke 49-6 last week. While surprising, Duke teams under David Cutcliffe have been known to disappear late into the season.
The Orange is going to come into this game with some confidence, but so is Louisville, as the Cardinals clinched bowl eligibility last week with a win over NC State.
While both teams are high on their respective wins, all signs point to Louisville covering in this one. The Cardinals are at home and are also a respectable 6-4 against the spread this year, while the Orange is 3-7 ATS.
Look to the Cardinals to add on to their win total against a very suspect Syracuse team.
Pick: Louisville (-9)
Michigan (-10) at Indiana
Michigan is one of the hottest teams in the country right now. The Wolverines have won in blowout fashion in their last three games, with two of those wins coming against rival teams Michigan State and Notre Dame.
Coach Jim Harbaugh has gained a reputation during his tenure at Ann Arbor for blowing bigger games that he is a favorite in. He and the 2019 Wolverines know this and are doing their best to squash that stigma.
This week, they are facing a very scrappy Indiana team. While not known for football, the Hoosiers have a very nice 7-3 record this year and almost pulled off an upset against Penn State last week.
While both teams are hot right now and have very good records against the spread, the Wolverines are the safer bet. The game is at Indiana, but Michigan has proven lately that this year, it is a different type of team.
Indiana is outmatched on both sides of the ball, and it will show in this game. While it may be close for a while, Michigan should do just enough to cover. Take the Wolverines this week.
Pick: Michigan (-10)
Last week, Sports Editor Camden Speight went 1-2, barely missing the over in the NC State-Louisville game, getting an easy Florida cover, and failing to get to 61 points in the Clemson-Wake Forest game despite Clemson scoring 52.
