The NC State women’s basketball team will host the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks on Sunday, Nov. 10 in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack (1-0) won its first game of the season against the North Carolina A&T Aggies (0-1) on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with a final score of 80-44. Freshmncan forward Jada Boyd was the largest contributor for the Pack with 18 points. She also made an impact at the free-throw line, shooting 8 for 9.
Freshman wing Jakia Brown-Turner and junior forward Kayla Jones were also helpful with 14 points each. Jones was 3 for 4 from behind the arc and 1-for-2 shooting free throws.
Looking to continue the strong start to its season, the Wolfpack will take on the UNCW Seahawks (0-1) who lost their first game at Wake Forest last Tuesday 65-55.
The Seahawks will look toward redshirt senior guard GiGi Smith who scored almost half of their total points in the game against the Deacs with 26. She went 6 for 8 from the free-throw line and 2 for 5 behind the arc. Another impact player was junior forward Paige Powell who had nine points of her own and recorded eight rebounds.
Senior guard Ahyiona Vason and junior forward Carol-Anne Obusek were also both consistent from behind the free-throw line in their loss, each shooting 3 for 4.
The Pack will rely heavily on sophomore center Elissa Cunane as well as senior guard Aislinn Konig who both took on important roles for the Wolfpack last season. Cunane was sidelined much of the first half in the game against the Aggies with two personal fouls so she’ll be looking for a different start to this next game. This will also be an important game for both Brown-Turner and Boyd who are each coming off a very strong game against the Aggies.
As long as the Pack can keep Smith in check, this should be a relatively easy home win.
The game will tip off at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Reynolds Coliseum.
