The NC State women’s volleyball team closed out the season with a tight loss at Boston College Saturday in five sets.
After a tough three-set loss to No. 2 Pitt, the Wolfpack (11-19, 6-12 ACC) was looking to end the season with a win but fell short.
In the first set, the Eagles (20-11, 11-7 ACC) started off with an early 10-4 lead against the Pack. Even with a huge kill by sophomore Jade Parchment to keep NC State in the set, the Wolfpack was unable to come back to win the set, giving Boston College the first win. Parchment ended the match will 11 kills for the Wolfpack, helping NC State win two of its sets.
The second set remained close for the majority of the time, but the Wolfpack was able to run away with the set after a 9-0 run. NC State was also able to capture the third set, starting the set off with a 5-0 run, in which Boston College was able to respond. After being all tied up at 15, the Wolfpack was able to run with five unanswered points, never allowing Boston College to return.
After dropping two sets in a row, the Eagles were able to bounce back to take the match 3-2. In a close fourth set, the Eagles captured the set by scoring five unanswered points towards the end of the set, giving Boston College the 25-20 victory, and tying the match at 2-2.
In the final set of the match, the Wolfpack fell in a nail-biting 15-13 set to end the season. While the Wolfpack was unable to solidify a win in its last game, junior Melissa Evans was able to match her career-high with 23 kills in the match, as well as a .339 hitting percentage. With her 23 kills, Evans became the second player in NC State history to record 400 kills in one season.
With the tough end to the season for NC State, women’s volleyball will end its season 11-19.
