The NC State men’s and women’s swimming teams both captured first place at the NC State/GAC Invitational that took place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center this weekend.

The seventh-ranked Wolfpack women won by scoring 1,875.5 points to beat the 13^th-ranked Auburn who finished with 1,703 points and 11^th-ranked Duke who finished with 1,497.5 points.

The Pack men, who are also ranked seventh, won by scoring 2,075 points. The Pack men beat out 14^th-ranked Arizona State who scored 1,827 points and 24^th-ranked Wisconsin who scored 1,302 points.

On the men’s side, there were four first-place finishers in four different events. In the 1,650 freestyle, freshman Ross Dant finished first with a time of 14:53.72. In the 200 backstroke, senior Coleman Stewart finished first with a time of 1:39.98. In the 100 freestyle, sophomore Nyls Korstanje finished first with a time of 42.67, and in the 200 butterfly, sophomore Zach Brown also won with a time of 1:44.78.

The Pack women had one individual first place finisher in sophomore Sophie Hansson who won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.31. The Pack women also had two second-place finishers. These second-place finishers were junior Kate Moore with a time of 16:01.64 in the 1,650 freestyle, and sophomore Emma Muzzy who finished with a time of 1:52.22 in the 200 backstroke.

In the team 400 freestyle event, the Pack finished in 2nd place. The group selected for this event was Korstanje, Stewart, Tapp and Hensley. These men finished with a combined time of 2:50.50. The women’s 400 freestyle team also captured 2nd place. The group chosen for the women’s side was Perry, Alons, Berkoff and Poole and they finished with a combined time of 3:13.21.

It was a dominant three days for the Wolfpack swimming teams as they placed in the top three of almost every event. 

The Pack swimmers that are selected will be hoping to carry this momentum to the Toyota U.S. Open in Atlanta from Dec. 4-7.
