The NC State women’s soccer team ended its regular season in Louisville with a 1-0 win over the No. 14 Cardinals.
The Wolfpack’s (9-5-4,43-2-4 ACC) lone goal on the night was scored by sophomore midfielder Anna Toohey, her first goal of the season. The Cardinals (12-3-2, 5-3-2) did outshoot the Wolfpack across the 90 minutes but a solid performance in net from junior Jessica Berlin kept the Cardinals off the scoresheet.
Toohey has had limited opportunities this season with the additions of freshmen Leyah Hall-Robinson and Jameese Joseph and the return of senior Maxine Blackwood bolstering the Pack’s attacking ranks. Prior to the Louisville match, Toohey had made zero starts and played just over 300 minutes, compared to the eight starts and over 1000 minutes she played last season.
Against Louisville, Toohey played just 20 minutes but she was ruthlessly efficient, grabbing the game-winner right before halftime on her only shot of the night. Senior forward Tziarra King notched the assist on the goal, bringing her season point total to 30 (12 goals, six assists).
The result is an important one for the Pack as it both cements the Wolfpack’s place in the ACC tournament and is another solid win against a ranked opponent that should boost the Pack’s seed when the NCAA Tournament starts up.
The Wolfpack will be back in action on Nov. 3 for the ACC Tournament quarterfinal.
