This Sunday, NC State volleyball will play against Syracuse at Reynolds Coliseum at 1 p.m.

The Wolfpack (8-13, 3-6 ACC) has been having a rough season compared to its last few years and the Orange (5-11, 2-7 ACC) is in a similar state as the Pack.

Last season, when both teams were having a successful season, the Wolfpack lost its first game against Syracuse 3-1. Later in the season, the Pack hosted the Orange at Reynolds Coliseum and swept them 3-0.

The Wolfpack has only lost to Syracuse twice in history, both losses on the road. Four of the Pack’s six victories against the Orange have come at Reynolds Coliseum.

Having the home advantage and a history of success, the Wolfpack appears to be in good shape for Sunday’s match.

Similar to the Pack, the Orange rely heavily on key players such as outside hitter Polina Shemanova as a well rounded but especially strong offensive player. Teammate outside hitter Ella Saada consistently assists Shemanova with points at the net offensively.

Defense at the net is led by middle blocker Abby Casiano for blocking. In the back row, Shemanova and defense specialist Aliah Bowllan pick up most digs.

The Wolfpack will most likely combat Shemanova and Saada’s attacks with attacks of its own from junior opposite hitter Melissa Evans and redshirt junior middle blocker Jessica Kemp. In the back row, redshirt sophomore defense specialist Kaylee Frazier will most likely be the leader in digs. Sophomore outside hitter Jade Parchment will also be an asset on both offense and defense.

The Wolfpack will be challenged by the Orange but the Pack is in its best position to win on its home court.
