The NC State women’s tennis team will be traveling to Winston-Salem this weekend from Oct. 24-28 to compete in the ITA Carolina Regional Championship on the campus of Wake Forest.
Leading the way for the Wolfpack in Winston-Salem will be the dynamic doubles duo of senior Anna Rogers and sophomore Alana Smith. Rogers and Smith are the top-ranked doubles partners in the country, earning the No. 1 ranking in the Oracle/ITA Division I women’s rankings.
Rogers and Smith are each 6-2 individually, and as a duo are 3-1, with their only loss being at the hands of Vanderbilt earlier this month at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Also a strong doubles team, senior Adrianna Reami and junior Jaeda Daniel are 8-2 together, including a dominant 7-1 showing at the ITA All-American Championships. During their impressive performance, they won 8-2 against the fourth-ranked doubles team in the country, Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart from UCLA.
NC State has been incredible against ranked teams this season, going 7-0 in doubles and 12-6 in singles against ranked opponents. Reami and Daniel have combined for five of those doubles wins, while Rogers and Smith boast the other two.
Smith also has the most impressive singles win of the season under her belt, upsetting UCLA’s Hart, ranked ninth in the country, in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
NC State has a number of ranked singles players, headlined by Rogers at No. 8. Smith (No. 40), Daniel (No. 59), junior Lexi Keberle (No. 83) and Reami (No. 84) are all ranked in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings. The Wolfpack’s five ranked players are tied with UNC-Chapel Hill for the most in the ACC.
A championship or finalist appearance at Wake Forest would guarantee an appearance at the end-of-season Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which are held this year in Newport Beach, California.
