The NC State softball team remained undefeated in its fall season with a 14-2 win over East Carolina at Dail Softball Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Headlined by four home runs by four different players, the Wolfpack (5-0-1) put on an offensive clinic against the overmatch Pirates in the ten-inning fall exhibition game.
NC State got the scoring going early, with senior outfielder Angie Rizzi kicking off the home run party by launching a two-run opposite-field home run to right field in the first inning.
A few innings later the Pack’s 2019 home runs leader Brigette Nordberg picked up where she left off last season. The senior outfielder stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and ripped a single into the outfield, plating two runs and putting the Wolfpack up 5-0.
In the next inning, outfielder Tatyana Forbes, a senior transfer from Florida International, took advantage of her own bases-loaded opportunity and came through with a two-run single for a 7-0 Wolfpack lead. Two more runs scored off of an ECU throwing error and NC State finished the sixth inning with a nine-run lead.
ECU answered back with two runs, but another newcomer stepped up big for the Wolfpack to extend its lead back to nine, this time in the eighth inning. Outfielder Carson Shaner, a transfer from UNC-Wilmington, launched a two-run bomb to push the lead back up to nine, 11-2. Just a few batters later junior infielder Logan Morris crushed a two-run shot of her own for the Pack’s third home run of the day.
Senior infielder Skylar Johnston capped off the scoring and the home runs with a ninth-inning bomb to give the game its final score, 14-2 in favor of NC State.
NC State’s final fall game will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, when it takes on Wingate at Dail Softball Stadium.
