Just two days after a 3-0 loss to Florida State, the NC State volleyball team will take on Miami Sunday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack (6-11, 1-4 ACC) has lost four of its last five matches and is just 4-11 since starting the season off 2-0. On the other side of the net, the Hurricanes (7-6, 3-2 ACC) have impressed as of late, with a 5-2 record in their last seven matches.
Junior opposite hitter Melissa Evans will lead the Pack at the net, as she is pacing the team with 260 kills. Next to her at the top line are redshirt junior middle blocker Jessica Kemp and sophomore outside hitter Jade Parchment, who are second and third on the team with 164 and 144 kills, respectively.
Setting things up for NC State’ trio of strong hitters is redshirt freshman Nina Sharpton, who leads the Wolfpack with 487 assists. Freshman setter Kristen McDaniel, who is second on the team with 203 assists, will also be there to set for Evans, Kemp and Parchment.
Senior middle blocker Lauryn Terry, Kemp and Evans will see their fair share of blocks at the net, as the trio has combined for 156 blocks, with Terry pacing the trio with 71.
On the back line, liberos Kaylee Frazier and Grace Irvin do the majority of the dirty work, as the redshirt sophomore Frazier leads the Pack with 230 digs and the senior Irvin is second with 187.
The Wolfpack will have its work cut out in trying to slow down Miami opposite hitter Janet Kalaniuvalu, who led the Canes with 13 kills in a 3-1 loss to UNC-Chapel Hill Friday night.
Freshman libero Amanda Falck roams the back line for Miami and setter Savannah Vach does the work in setting up Kalaniuvalu and the Hurricanes’ hitters.
The Wolfpack is currently mired in a five-way tie for ninth place in the ACC, and a win over Miami could help kickstart what has been a disappointing season so far.
