The NC State softball team will play host to East Carolina this Saturday as both teams wrap up their fall schedules this weekend. The Wolfpack is 4-0-1 on the season and looks to continue its winning ways before preparing for the spring season.
The bats have come alive this fall for the Pack, most recently for senior infielder Skylar Johnston, whose two homers summed up what turned out to be an offensive showcase against the NC Central Eagles when NC State won 14-0 last Saturday. In that same game, the offense featured a heavy dose of junior outfielder Sam Russ. Russ’ four hits set the tone for a day in which the Wolfpack got 14 hits as a team against the Eagles.
Senior outfielder Angie Rizzi is the player to watch in this game. She was second last season in steals with eight and she stole another base after a leadoff single in the second inning against NC Central. Rizzi’s double in the sixth inning brought in 3 RBIs to put the finishing touches on a great game against the Eagles. But Rizzi has also displayed her power with a key two-run home run to help decide a close 5-4 win against UNC-Chapel Hill on Oct. 6.
On the other side, ECU secured its own win against UNC-Chapel Hill, a 6-4 triumph last Sunday at ECU Softball Stadium in Greenville. The Pirates will be tested as they head to Raleigh for their third road game this fall.
The game will be at Dail Softball Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19 and will start at 1 p.m. The Pack also has a home doubleheader against Wingate starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.
