Reports of rainfall at Dail Softball Stadium and an hour-long delay weren’t enough to slow down the NC State softball team Sunday afternoon, as it took both games in a doubleheader against Wingate by scores of 9-1 and 7-5, respectively.
The Wolfpack went undefeated in its fall schedule with a record of 7-0-1 and finished the calendar year on a high note. The Pack’s potent offense did not disappoint at all this fall in what figures to be its strength going into the spring.
The Pack scored at least seven runs in seven of its eight fall games with the exception being a close 5-4 game against North Carolina on Oct. 6. In three games this fall, the Pack scored north of 10 runs.
And that’s because when the Wolfpack got hits this fall, they’ve been able to hit it deep. But even before its two-game stretch against Wingate at home, the Wolfpack hit 13 home runs in six games.
They hit eight over the fences on Sunday.
Senior infielder Skylar Johnston hit two homers over the two games against Wingate, continuing a hot streak that has seen her hit four home runs over the last three days the Wolfpack has played. Not to be outdone, senior outfielder Angie Rizzi matched Johnston’s effort with two home runs of her own and finished with a team-leading five in the fall season.
Logan Morris, Brigette Nordberg, Sam Russ and Libby Whittaker all added a home run to their totals against Wingate as well. In all, the Wolfpack collected 21 home runs and provided an exciting finish to a memorable fall season.
