After two weeks of temperature highs in the 90s, temperatures are expected to drop by about 10 degrees on Tuesday in the Raleigh area, according to WRAL. 

Following a high of 97 on Monday, WRAL reported that highs during the week are expected to drop to the 80s, and lows will also drop from the mid-70s to mid-60s.

A significant portion of the U.S. east coast’s northern half is under some form of heat-based warning on Sunday. These warnings are issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), and include the Raleigh area. Raleigh is under a Heat Advisory, which refers to a period of high temperatures, according to a NWS weather message.

“Hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible,” the message stated. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.”

Parts of the state further east are under an Excessive Heat Warning, a more severe notice. According to WRAL, the last time North Carolina was issued such a warning was in July 2017. 

The heat advisory is set to expire at 6 a.m. on Monday.
