The NC State men’s soccer team will take on Boston College at home Saturday at 7 p.m. in the team’s first ACC matchup of the year. The Pack is coming off a 1-1 draw against William & Mary on Tuesday night, where the Pack outshot the Tribe 20-10.

Holding at a 2-1-1 record coming into ACC play, the Pack will want to get off to a good start in the league with the advantage of being at home. The Eagles have played four teams from the north, garnering a 4-0-0 record coming into this game.

The Wolfpack has faced two major obstacles throughout these first four games: losing star goalkeeper junior Leon Krapf to injury, and goal scoring. The Pack has had 17 or more shots in three out of the first four games; however, only one of these games saw the team score more than one goal. 

On the defensive side, Krapf’s replacement redshirt senior Vinnie Durand has played well, only allowing three goals so far and recording one shutout against Longwood. Junior defender Jamie Smith leads the Pack’s offensive attack on the stat sheet with one goal and two assists.

As for Boston College, the Eagles’ offensive attack has been led by freshman midfielder Amos Shapiro-Thompson, who has three goals in four games for the Eagles. In goal is another freshman in Giacomo Piccardo with three goals against, two shutouts and nine saves in his first four career games.

Last year, the Pack traveled to Chestnut Hill and was defeated by the Eagles 1-0. Saturday’s matchup proves to be a good one with NC State losing last year and Boston College coming in with some of its top players being freshmen.
