Redshirt junior quarterback Russell Wilson runs the ball against Boston College in Carter-Finley Stadium on Oct. 9, 2010. Wilson had total of 45 rushing yards during the game. NC State won against Boston College 44-17
Week two was another strong week for NC State University alumni, particularly the quarterbacks from “QBU.” Russell Wilson, Phillip Rivers and Jacoby Brissett all had solid starts, and some rookies had strong games as well. Let’s see how some players performed this week.
Russell Wilson, Quarterback, Seattle Seahawks
Wilson had another strong start week two against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh. He threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns despite dealing with a fearsome Steelers pass rush that sacked him four times. Last week, he didn’t rely heavily on rushing throughout the game, as he only totaled 22 yards on six carries, but he’ll look to improve those numbers when the Seahawks return home to take on the New Orleans Saints Sunday.
Phillip Rivers, Quarterback, Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers were handed their first loss of the season in a close 13-10 game on the road against the Detroit Lions, but Rivers was still able to throw for over 290 yards with only one interception. His completion percentage was only 58.3%, but there was a stark difference as to how he was protected this week by his offensive line, as he was only sacked once compared to last week’s four times.
Jacoby Brissett, Quarterback, Indianapolis Colts
Brissett picked up his first win of the season with a close 19-17 win on the road against the Tennessee Titans. He had another solid game, throwing for 146 yards with 60.7% completion and three touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also picked up his first interception and was sacked three times by Tennessee’s defense. The Colts offensive line needs to focus on protecting their quarterback moving forward, especially considering they’re heading back to Indianapolis for their first home game of the season to take on the Falcons. This will be a test for Brissett, as it’s his first game at Lucas Oil Stadium since the unexpected retirement of original starting quarterback Andrew Luck.
Bradley Chubb, Edge Rusher, Denver Broncos
The Broncos’ defense was stingy again, as it allowed sixteen points against the Chicago Bears. This was Chubb’s first game in Colorado, and he had a particularly strong one, recording five total tackles, all of them solo. The Broncos will be traveling to Green Bay for week three, and they’ll be working to improve these low defensive numbers.
A.J. Cole III, Punter, Oakland Raiders
Cole had his second week of NFL action with the Raiders as they lost to the Chiefs 28-10. In the loss, Cole punted six times, good for 264 yards with an average of 44 yards per punt and a long of 60 yards. This was another solid start for Cole, as he is just getting started in his NFL career.
