NC State women’s soccer team will take on Furman at home this Sunday for the alumni weekend game. The Wolfpack is coming off of a tough 0-1 loss at Minnesota on Thursday.

Unranked Furman is not a team to be slept on and has an exceptional offense, scoring 17 goals in seven games. The Paladins are 5-2 on the season and are also coming off a dominant 5-0 victory against Presbyterian. 

The Paladins’ offense is led by forward Jasmine Greene and forward Kyndal Anderson. Greene leads the team in points with three goals and four assists. Anderson leads the team in goals with four in seven games in only 240 mins played. 

Furman’s defense has been strong only ceding seven goals in seven games. It is led by seniors Erin O’Hearn and Arianna Milicia while senior goalkeeper Kellsey Weaver has been solid as well, with 18 saves and allowing only 7 goals on 67 shots. 

Senior midfielder Tziarra King leads the Wolfpack’s offense in points with two goals and an assist. Redshirt sophomore defender Lulu Guttenberger and senior defender Krissi Schuster are tied with King for the most goals on the team with two each. 

Junior Goalkeeper Jessica Berlin has only allowed two goals in the past four games. She has also had 16 saves in 56 shots. The Wolfpack defense averages only 0.83 goals against them. With the help of defenders Schuster, Guttenberger and sophomore Jenna Butler, the Wolfpack will be difficult to score on. 

Furman has not been shutout this season yet, so the struggling Wolfpack offense will need to score at least two or more goals to compete with the Paladins’ stellar offense. If the Wolfpack’s offense can step up and the defense continues to be a brick wall, the team should be able to win this crucial match against Furman before traveling to ECU and starting ACC play on Sept. 22 against Duke. 

NC State vs. Furman will kick off this Sunday at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Dail Soccer Field and will be televised on the ACC Network.
