Taking a break from ACC play with a midweek match against the College of Charleston, the NC State men’s soccer team will host the Cougars in Dail Soccer Stadium Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Wolfpack (3-1-1) holds the upper hand in this matchup, with a winning record to open up the season as well as home-field advantage. The Cougars (1-3-1) have struggled more this season with three tough ties, but will head into their next game against NC State with a recent 3-0 loss against Hofstra.
The Wolfpack’s offensive production so far this season has been led by freshman defender Pablo Pedregrosa, who has racked up two goals and four points, including the game-winning goal against Boston College. While most of Pedregrosa’s time is spent in the backfield, the freshman manages to make his way toward the goal to place the ball in the back corners of the net.
After junior goalkeeper Leon Krapf was injured in the beginning of the season, redshirt senior Vincent Durand has stepped up to become the Wolfpack’s starting goalkeeper and has filled his shoes with no hesitation, protecting NC State’s goal.
Since Charleston has begun its regular season play with five matches under its belt, the Cougars have only managed to score one goal from midfielder Tucker Heffron.
Heffron is a returning senior for the team, and the midfielder has played a total of 206 minutes this season with three shot attempts. With a shooting percentage of 0.333, the senior is leading the Cougars with two points.
While Charleston’s offense is not shining this season, its defense has stepped up its game, as freshman goalkeeper Issac Alstrom has tallied 18 saves on the season with a save percentage of 0.750.
The match will be broadcasted with live coverage from ACC Network Extra at @TechSports on Twitter.
