Beginning Monday, Aug. 5 and lasting until Sunday, Aug. 11, North Hills invites people to celebrate North Hills Restaurant Week. North Hills Restaurant Week is a chance for people to broaden their tastes and horizons and to interact with the community in North Hills. Participating restaurants will be offering special promotional deals or special menus for the week.
Bars, bakeries, bistros and everything in between will be participating. Scherra Gebo, the general manager of Mura, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, said that North Hills Restaurant Week allows the local restaurants to show off their talents.
“We’re good at what we do, and our chef is awesome,” Gebo said. “Not every time do we get to showcase what our dishes are or how good our restaurants are.”
Gebo believes that both customers and restaurants will definitely benefit from North Hills Restaurant Week.
“It opens us up to other restaurants,” Gebo said. “People tend to order the same things when they come to a restaurant and they find what they like, but with Restaurant Week, they broaden their horizons. It’s an eye-opener for people that come here to eat.”
For some, North Hills Restaurant Week also has a deeper meaning. Mindy Glatfelter, co-owner of Edible Art Bakery, said that North Hills Restaurant Week allows the community of North Hills to band together and make sure that North Hills will continue to be enjoyed into the future.
“There’s a lot of stores and shopping centers and malls that have closed down in the past few years,” Glatfelter said. “I think just with online shopping and other online options, I don’t think people are getting out as much and using the shopping centers as much. It’s nice to be able to have North Hills, that’s continuously growing, working together so that we’re not going to be another shopping center that closes down.”
North Hills restaurants will be giving deals to customers as incentives to sample all of what North Hills has to offer. Some locations will offer discounted prix fixe menus, meaning there will be pre-selected items on the menu that are all set at the same price. Other restaurants will be offering buy-one-get-one deals or discounted menu prices.
Mura will be offering a three-course lunch for $15 and a three-course dinner for $30. Edible Art Bakery will be offering a deal to buy three café items and get one free.
“We really like to try to get involved with anything that North Hills events is doing or any kind of promotions that they’re trying to do,” Glatfelter said. “I know sometimes, with us just being a bakery and not a full restaurant, it’s harder for us to do some of the other events that they’re offering, but I think it’s a great opportunity for us to be able to get our name out there.”
A list of participating restaurants can be found on the North Hills Restaurant Week website along with a list of the deals being offered.
